These were all taken in Taipei City, near my mother's high school. Or, as she tells me every day, "the best girls' high school in Taiwan." So that's my mom. :)
Tea. My mom and I bought some from my grandfather.
Pre-dinner snack. Bun with beef and vegetables inside. (Forgot how to spell "vegetables" for a second.)
Don't ask.
This is my absolute favorite dessert ever. Little mochi with sesame paste inside. I could actually eat just these for five years straight. Maybe even ten.
Inside. Mmmmm. Sesame!
I have no idea what these are called, but they are hot desserts sold on the street that I've seen in several places around the city. They're bready with red bean paste inside.
Red bean!

The dessert entry

As all of you know, China (and more specifically, Taiwan) is a big part of my heritage. My mother was born in China but raised in Taipei, Taiwan. (FYI, my father was born in Philadelphia but raised in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. So kind of the same.) All of my mother's immediate family still resides in Taipei: my grandparents, my aunt, my uncle, their children and their children's children. I'm going to Taipei this summer for seven full weeks (from May 28-July 15) to live with them, become familiar with their Taiwan lifestyle and finally learn to speak some Mandarin.
Didn't we eat those sesame mochi things on my front lawn once? Except they were smaller? Yummm.
